why is it that in the global trading station, people just ask for something completely out of hand?

People ask for strong pokemon for weak (ex. Magikarp lv. 25 for palkia lvl.100) because that's the way they think they'll get really strong pokemon through the gts easier, but they're not going to. There are quite a lot of ridiculous trade offers but you'll just have to keep searching for a good trade (shouldn't take too long...). Maybe there's a different reason but who knows...

it takes forever to find an actually decent trade though because all people want is legendaries and i only have one of each legendary that im not willing to trade.

I got a level 7 Japanese Rattatta, rattatta being my favorite pokemon for a level 8 metapod. Now my chances of hatching a shiny rattatta are cut in half.
