Personally, this has never worked for me on any generation of Pokemon game, but the author of this topic claims that it only works for D/P/PT.

I think its worked for me but i could just have been lucky. I caught a Poliwirl Lv.46 full heath in a pokeball.

I'll try this, but I think it might just be luck more than anything else.
Although, I might try it on one of the legendary birds in Platinum.
